Contest result Gravelines 2016

Saturday 12 November the jury of the first Biennale of the print of Gravelines met.
It consisted of:
– Caroline Bouyer, engraver and engraving teacher at Estienne school (Paris)
– Virginie Caudron, Director of the Museum of Drawing and Original Print of Gravelines
– Matthieu Coulanges, printmaking tools designer, Treasurer of the association “Art & Estampe – Friends of the museum of Gravelines”
– Jacques Declercq, engraver, formerly professor of engraving at the school of art of Calais and workshops of Gravelines and former member of the Group of Gravelines
– Nicolas Declercq, Associate Professor of Visual Arts
– Agnès Dubart, engraver
– Denise Frélaut, formerly director of the etching workshop and publishing house Lacourrière-et-Frélaut
– Roland Plumart, collector, printmaker, curator of the Association Malbodium Museum
– Hélène Vasseur-Bessière, President of the association “Art & Estampe – Friends of the museum of Gravelines”

After almost 4 hours of deliberations, the jury unanimously
– First prize at Marie Belorgey
– Special price Taille Douce at Thierry Mortiaux

Biennal 2016 selection

The first Biennale printmaking Gravelines will be held in autumn 2016 at the Museum of drawing and the original print Gravelines (France). The judging panel has finished studyng all applications sent.

We warmly thank all 280 participants from Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Egypt, Spain, Estonia, the United States, Finland, France, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland, Taiwan et Turkey for the creativity and quality of the contemporary print they presented us.

The jury was composed of the Gravelines museum of drawing and original print, of the “Art & Print – friends of the Gravelines museum” association, who organised the event, and of elected representatives of Gravelines. Each application was examined by all the members of the comittee and the decisions were unanimously taken.

The comittee had to make crucial choices given the number of applications collected. Twenty printmakers have been selected to be displayed from november 12, 2016 to December 23rd, 2016. Prize of the biennial, an endowment 1500 euros. and Intaglio price, consisting of a set of Matthieu Coulanges intaglio tools, will be awarded the day of the opening of the exhibition, saturday november 12, 2016.

It is created at the initiative of the Art & Print association, in partnership with the museum and the city of Gravelines.

Talking windows

From 11th March to 3rd April 2016, the event « les fenêtres qui parlent » took place in Lille.

On 16th January at midday, a meeting with inhabitants of the « Bois-Blanc » area, in the « Espace Pignon » was an opportunity for the association « Art et Estampe » to show engravings that would be displayed in houses’ windows.

The event was lauched on March 11th with a brigade of story tellers for a visit of some of the 50 windows that talked this year, after which a friendly drink was offered by the town at the « Espace Pignon ».

Lauch of the biennial : exhibition and sale of small formats

On December 12th 2015 the first biennial was launched with two events taking place in the evening : an exhibition and sale of small format prints and at the same time a presentation of the book « les quatre saisons, chronique gravée de l’atelier » created by the members of the friday engraving workshop. This was an opportunity to highlight the initiative of the association « Art et Estampe » which counts around 40 members.
